Top Three Lessons Learned from Watching the National Championship Football Game!

Football game

Did you watch the 2017 College Football National Championship game last night? What a game until the last second touchdown! I watched even though my Cornhuskers were not playing but did fall asleep in the fourth quarter thinking the win was going to Alabama. What a surprise ending but don’t call it an upset if you ask Clemson head coach he expected to win the game. After watching the game, the three lessons learned from watching the biggest game of the year for college football.

  1. Having the mindset and vision to see the win: Coach William Christopher “Dabo” Swinney kept telling his team they were going to win. He kept telling them he didn’t know how but he kept saying it over and over to them. He mentioned he was playing a movie in his head and he created the ending. You have to tell yourself how you want the story to end. You have to vision the outcome. You have to vision the win!
  2. Not where you start but how you finish:  Coach Swinney football career started in 1989 as a wide receiver for the University of Alabama in 1989 and in 2008 became the head football coach for Clemson and finally in 2017 won a national championship comeback win over Alabama. Too many people give up too soon. They think their competition is winning and they give up right before they are going to win. You have to have patience and persistence to go on until you succeed.  There can only be one #1 winner and it might as well be you!
  3. Stick to your plan that works: I heard on the radio the other day Coach Nick Saban for the University of Alabama secret to winning football games and championships is sticking to what has worked in the past but always staying ahead of his competition for the future. It is easy these days to be distracted with the latest technology or idea and get off focus. Do what works best for you. What has worked for you in the past. Write down everything that has paid off and what you did and just do it. You need to have systems in place and follow until done. I’m sure both Coach Saban and Coach Swinney have a routine each day for their players and themselves and do not get off track.

Next time you are you are ready to give up take a day or a week to make sure you are making the right decision and not giving up too soon. Someday you will be holding the championship trophy of life!
